Visa Requirements

 1) F Visa - This type of visa is for international students who wish to pursue an academic degree at an accredited US college or university or to study English at a university or English-intensive institute. There are three types of F visas:

 > F-1 visa for full-time students;

 > F-2 visa for dependents of F-1 visa holders (spouse and unmarried children under age 21, including same-sex couples);

 > The F-3 visa is for 'border commuters' – Mexican and Canadian students living in their home countries while attending school part-time or full-time in the US.

  2) M Visa – This type of visa is for international students who wish to engage in non-academic or vocational study or training at an institution in the US. There are three types of M visas:

> M-1 visa for students pursuing vocational or non-academic studies;

> M-2 visa for dependents of M-1 visa holders;

> The M-3 visa for 'border commuters' is like the F-3 visa, but for vocational or non-academic studies.

  3) J Visa – This type of visa is for international exchange visitors participating in programs in the US that promote cultural exchange. All applicants must meet the eligibility criteria of the program in question and be sponsored by a private sector or government program. J visa holders usually stay in the US for a short time, perhaps a semester or two. J-1 visa holders must return to their home country for at least two years at the end of their exchange visitor program. There are two types of J visa:

 > J-1 visa for exchange students on relevant exchange programs;

 > J-2 visa for dependents of J-1 visa holders.

 All international students coming to study in the US need to apply for an F Visa, J Visa or M Visa.
