Daily ticket to enter Venice just $6, expensive or cheap?

Over tourism experienced by Venice has resulted in the implementation of daily entry tickets for tourists. The policy has been approved, but there are pros and cons.

Reporting from the BBC, the city of Venice in Italy will approve a trial of daily tourist fees next year. The cost is Euro 5 or $6. Tourists over the age of 14 must order tickets online to be able to holiday there for a day.

"Venice is one of the most visited cities in Europe and suffers the most from excess tourism," said city council member for tourism Simone Venturini.

How can it not be crowded, a city that only measures 7.6 square km must accommodate almost 13 million tourists in 2019. According to the Italian national statistics institute, this number will continue to increase in the coming years.

"The aim (daily entrance ticket) is for tourists to come on soft days outside the holiday season," said Venturini.

Venturini said that Venice wanted to test this daily fee so that the city would not be overwhelmed.  Some time ago, UNESCO sent a warning to Venice.  The Canal City is in danger of sinking due to climate change and excessive tourism.

Previously, Venice had racked its brains to anticipate this.  In 2021, cruise ships were banned from entering the historic center of Veensia via the Guidecca Canal after a ship crashed into the harbour.  Critics also argue that the ships cause pollution and erode the foundations of flood-ravaged cities.

However, the story is different with the daily tourist rates.  Tourists themselves are not sure whether this policy will help Venice control tourist arrivals.

"We are on holiday, Euro 5 tickets are not expensive," said Karina, a tourist from Germany.

Meanwhile, Cal, a student from Ireland who is on holiday there, feels the opposite.

"A Euro 5 daily ticket is quite expensive to live with for a day. The queues in the main square are too long," he said.
